Dogs that make a difference

We’re delighted to welcome Pets Against Loneliness to St Matthias Hall – a monthly voluntary group using dogs to tackle social isolation among older people.

It runs 10am-12noon the first Saturday of every month.

Says PAL founder Lyn Ambrose: “We’re so grateful to St Matthias Halls for making sure we can bring our guests, dogs and their owners together after our last home closed for refurbishment.”

Launched last year, the group’s drop-ins launched are designed to provide a chance for older people who may feel isolated, to meet and socialise in the company of well-behaved dogs and their owners.  It’s friendly and informal, with tea, coffee and refreshments for guests.

PAL is on the lookout for volunteers from Hackney and Islington to help make the events a success. They have just been selected for  the Co-op’s Local Community Fund whereby members who shop at either the Stoke Newington Road or Dalston Square branches can help support PAL. Members can also support the cause through the Co-op’s website with over £700 raised so far.

Ambrose is running a crowdfunder on JustGiving to help secure PAL’s long-term future.
